History

Sod by Sherry® was established in 1983 by my late grandfather; Virdin Royse, my father; Dan Sherry, and myself, Brad Sherry. Dan left the FAA in 1980 to start Sherry Enterprises Inc., which specialized in mowing and lawn maintenance of several housing additions in the Oklahoma City area. Through the years, this business required occasional sod purchases. The quality of sod purchased was not as good as the jobs required. Dan Sherry partnered with the late Oklahoman cattleman Virdin Royse to start Sod by Sherry.

Preliminary ideas about sod production arose. First, ideas about how many acres of cattle land the sod farm would consume. Second, how was Sod by Sherry® going to differentiate its product to compete in the established sod market effectively? Third, ideas arose about how our farm could grow and produce a quality turf product. Looking back we see that through controlling every aspect of sod production including; growing, digging, installing, and power rolling, our sod farm has been able to become a Total Quality sod farm.

Through the years, our third-generation family business has been successful through strict quality management, technological innovations, and a strict “cut to order” policy to ensure the Total Quality of our grass. We believe that our grasses and the attention to detail in our workmanship are better than Oklahoma has experienced in the past. It’s a growing field; somebody has to do it. We are still doing it because of our strict Total Quality Management, and excellence in all areas of operations.
